Blacksod Bay Loop Trail 1

Scientist, lecturer, broadcaster and 2005 Rose Of Tralee, Dr. Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, a native of Mayo, enjoys two scenic journeys at Caraheigue (Ceathruthaidhg) and Black Sod Bay. In the first of her two trails, she sets off on a bike along from Belmullet, visiting a weather station and Colaiste Uisce. This undiscovered part of North mayo is covered on bike and on foot and gives the hiker an idea of just how much there is to see and do in this beautiful part of the country. Everywhere there is beauty in natural landscape and history. Derry Clarke and Kevin Thornton, two celebrity chefs, who didn't really know each other except professionally, agreed to venture out from Allihies, a tiny village which was the home to the Coppermines back in the early 1900's.
