Fermanagh - Cuilcagh Lakelands
In this episode of Tracks & Trails in County Fermanagh's Cuilcagh Lakelands Geopark, Doireann is joined by singer and Eurovision star Brooke Scullion to explore one of Ireland's most extraordinary natural environments.
Together they walk the Blackslee Waterfall Trail, a 4.5km route through the peaceful Lough Navar Forest before a short drive to Lough Achork where they take an easy going looped trail with tranquil views.
Along the walk Brooke reflects on identity and national pride following her Eurovision journey: "As soon as I was chosen to represent Ireland, my nationality and my identity were being called into question… I had never dealt with anything like that. The main thing is you don't have to change your opinion, you just have to respect other people for theirs.” They part ways at a breathtaking vista over Lough Erne, a lake steeped in Irish mythology and folklore. For Brooke, the land is more than beautiful, it!s healing. "Walking has got me through a lot… it heals… I'm very grateful to the land.”
